We believe that girls, more than ever, are the world's most powerful force for change.  We are determined to be flexible and move forward in our efforts to provide funding for yoga and the wellness that it brings to girls growing up in poverty.

Due to COVID-19,  the Mariposa Center for Girls is temporarily closed, and our efforts to establish a girls’ program in Colorado is on hold.

It’s not all bad news! Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, our funding continues to support the efforts of the Mariposa Center for Girls in the Dominican Republic as they regroup and figure out appropriate and efficient ways to help their students through the pandemic.

There is no doubt in my mind that our girls have been able to use the breathing and meditation techniques they have learned in yoga to get through some of the harder days.

Introducing Virtual Yoga Classes!

Yogic philosophy tells us to practice consistently with earnestness. In that spirit, the Mariposa Center for Girls will launch virtual yoga classes soon by providing students with iPads and access to pre-recorded sessions. This will allow the girls to continue to practice their meditation and asana (poses). It is Yoga Effect’s hope this will provide stability in a time of instability and help the girls hone their healthy coping tools when approaching unnavigated stresses that are impacting the globe as a whole.

Yoga Sutra 1.14 - Perfection in practice comes when one continues to practice with sincerity and respect for a long period of time without any interruption.

In other words, the effects of yoga become stronger with persistent, long-term dedication, and sincerity.
